Donations needed for the 4th Annual Silent Auction at the Maine HR Convention!

The auction benefits the SHRM Maine State Council and the SHRM Foundation - and we need your help to make it a success!

The SHRM Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that advances the HR profession and enhances the competency of HR professionals through funding research, publications and educational programs.  The work of the SHRM Foundation is supported by tax deductible contributions made by individuals, companies and organizations.  The SHRM Maine State Council uses auction proceeds to fund HR scholarships for its members.

    Here’s how you can help:

    1. We need items to auction!  Please consider contributing an item to the silent auction.  The item can be donated by you, by your employer, or both.  Items that auction well include: themed gift baskets, gift certificates, artwork, jewelry, lodging packages, food items, business services, sports memorabilia – use your imagination!  Please complete the donation form and return to me at april.clark@na.manpower.com, by Friday, April 9.

    1. We need shoppers!  Attend the auction on Tuesday, May 11 & Wednesday, May 12 at the HR Convention at the Samoset Resort – and bid on an item or two!  Like in years past, this promises to be a fun event for all – engage in some “retail therapy” and help support your profession at the same time!  Cash, checks and credit cards accepted!

The HR community faces a new challenge in the developing H1N1 situation.  To assist HR leaders in developing plans and policies to effectively handle this challenge the Maine State SHRM Council developed a survey.  The link below is the summary of this survey.  Thank you to all that participated.

We have also included a link below to a guidance document that the Federal CDC has recently released to assist business with planning. It provides a good synopsis of planning points and links to other resources.

    Local HR in the News!

David Pease, SHRM Maine State Council President, was interviewed by Jennifer Rooks for MPBN on “Unemployment and the Maine Economy”, along with John Dorrer from the Department of Labor.   We are all excited that the SHRM Maine State Council was once again asked to share our expertise.

John was asked to highlight the bad unemployment stats, then David was asked what employers and employees can do.  The taping was for a 13 minute segment. Jennifer also interviewed Richard Conner, new publisher of The Portland Newspapers for the same show.
